Thank You for signing up to the Holocaust Memorial Day: 80 Candles Memorial Quilt Project

I am delighted you will be joining me on this collaborative adventure.

If you haven’t worked with me before, please rest assured that my workshops are relaxed friendly spaces which focus on encouraging creativity, community and connection. There is no right or wrong in slow stich practice. It is about exploring, connecting with and telling stories, and adding a little of ourselves to the work. I ask participants to leave notions of perfection at the door and wholeheartedly welcome all levels of experience and ability.

In preparation for the workshop, I would like you to think about who you are going to represent within your square. I know this can be a daunting prospect so I have created some resources for you which I hope will help and guide. These include:

All materials and equipment will be provided. There is a colour scheme which all participants will be working with, but I welcome you to bring along any additional scraps of fabric or embellishments you’d like to include in your work that are inspired by your research/person’s story.

This is a challenging subject. The loss of life, liberty and freedom alongside, the terror and brutality are heart wrenching. Remember that together we are doing important work, that by keeping the flame of remembrance alive we are helping to guard against future genocide. If you are finding the topic difficult, please take a break, share your research at the workshops and remember that these are a safe space, not only to share what we have learned but the impact this is having upon you. Self-care is important, get some fresh air, do something you love, you can also contact me laura_burrill@outlook.com

You can track the progress of the project via my website and social media Facebook https://www.facebook.com/EveryStitchAStory Instagram: _Laura_Burrill_ Please do also share your progress using the #EveryStitchAStory #HMD80Candles.  Also, if you can, please share this project with any fellow stitchers. We have 30 participants signed up so far and are aiming for 80! There is still plenty of space on workshops with a few more in the planning stages as different locations.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Once you have chosen the person you are going to represent, please let me know and I can add them to the list. This will mean we don’t have any duplicates.

I look forward to seeing you at the workshop!

Laura Burrill with Holocaust Survivor Arek Hersh MBE, November 2024.
